Evaluations

In a 2-3 hour interview, we assess for the purpose of identifying psychiatric symptoms, social and environmental stressors,  and psychiatric disorders that can impede functioning. We will also provide treatment recommendations and referrals for additional psychiatric services (such as medication referrals) if needed.

If your evaluation is for Immigration, you or your attorney might believe that there are valid mental health issues to be evaluated that can help support your case and can impact the decision for you (or your spouse) to stay legally in the United States. We conduct psychosocial immigration evaluations that can highlight the special circumstances of your situation, taking into account your culture, childhood, work history, mental health symptoms and trauma.

The following are the immigration evaluations we conduct:

Extreme Hardship Waivers

The Government considers a variety of factors when determining whether an individual meets the “Extreme Hardship” standard pursuant to the Immigration and Nationality Act. Evaluating the potential impact of the undocumented individual’s deportation from a lawfully-resident parent or spouse is not the only factor the Government considers when assessing extreme and exceptional hardship cases. The factors used in determining whether a waiver applicant has established extreme hardship can be overwhelming. Evaluations of this nature can get particularly complex. Allow our skilled staff at MMTC to help in navigating the psychological requirements of this process.

Domestic/ Spousal Abuse Waiver

(VAWA)

This evaluation seeks to establish the presence of domestic abuse in order to file for legal status (separately from their U.S. Citizen spouse). The psychotherapist is tasked with assessing the presence of abuse and the psychological and practical impacts of the abuse. Sometimes the abuse is obvious, but at other times, it is more subtle. Documented indicators of abuse is cited as physical, verbal, or psychological assault.

Political Asylum

U-Visa

Historically, individuals applying for the political asylum have suffered a variety of psychological and/or physical trauma in their country of origin. The nature of these evaluations typically documents mistreatment and abuse the individual suffered (i.e. racial, ethnic, religious or political mistreatment, psychological assault, etc.). This in-depth evaluation includes any psychological and emotional distress as a result of the persecution in their country. Our trauma focused assessments allow us to evaluate the level and degree of trauma.

The U visa is a nonimmigrant visa that is reserved for victims of crime who assist law enforcement. It is meant to protect, and arguably reward, non-citizens who have suffered significant mental or physical abuse from a qualifying criminal activity. Through our in-depth assessment, we seek to assess the impact this trauma has created in your everyday life.
